Hey friends !
If you have been enjoying the recent letters or you are new here and you haven’t subscribed you can do so below and you won’t miss any articles during the week.
To me it seems like the year is moving a little bit fast lot of things are happening , a lot of changes which I will have to share in the near future and one of the things I am finding helpful is taking experiments .
A teacher had 20 students in a competition to make the best pot so he took 10 students and told them to take the whole time just make one pot and the other 10 where to make 10 different pots in the same time and it turned out that those who made more pots had more better pots than the single that the first group made.
This shows how effective iteration or taking small experiments is , which can lead to quality decisions over time .Most of the times we tend to make long term goals “Which is a good thing” but what we forget is during the journey we allowed to make quick iterations or experiments that can yield to better decisions, most of the times we procrastinate with perfectionism waiting for that one perfect decision or action.
What if we can think long term and increase our execution rate ? How better can we become each day ? Part of the solution is more experiments and more self-reflections ,more experiments so that we discover what we like and what works for us , more self reflection so that can further identify what works for us based on our skills unique talent and personality.Once we find what works we can focus more on that and our life become easier .
I.Taking experiments
See decisions not as final choices, but experiments. The anxiety (and paralysis) comes when we are worried about making the perfect choice and worried about making the wrong choice. We can take experiments instead of having a pile of unmade decisions think about this :
Don’t know if you should start your own cupcake business? Try making some and selling them through your network of friends. You can’t fail because it’s an experiment, and after doing it, you’ll know a little more about whether you want to do that business or not.
Don’t know if you should take ballet class? Go to the class and try it out.
Don’t know if you should take a certain job? Take it, and see. Worst-case scenario is you don’t like it and will have to find another. But that’s not bad, because now you have that information, when you didn’t before.
II.The importance of reflecting
After a week of the “250 words a day challenge” learnt a lot of lessons about creating habits.I haven’t written anything the past three days which shows how habits are not built overnight. One thing I learnt is the power of reflecting not only from this challenge but from the inconsistent daily writing for the past two years.
Reflection illuminates your knowledge, assumptions, and worldviews, playing a crucial role in personal growth. It involves critically assessing past events, understanding lessons learned, and applying these insights to future situations.
This process of reflection can lead to a profound understanding of oneself, fostering growth, resilience, and adaptability.I think reflecting is a great tool when taking small experiments.Through practicing feedback daily and internalising constructive criticism and transforming it into actionable actions we can build quick small growths which can lead to long term growth.
Some actionable actions and tips that we can integrate into our daily life to our different reflecting methods :
Challenging Assumptions - Once a week we can try to question some of the self-limiting beliefs and try to shift to better perspectives that can lead to personal growth .
Goal-Setting Post-Reflection - We can look at goal setting not as a one time thing but something we can always come back to as we gain more insights.
Reflect on Successes and Failures - Make it a habit to assess both your triumphs and setbacks. This balanced approach ensures a comprehensive understanding of your experiences, aiding in well-rounded development.
III.A positive approach to risk
Everything you want is just outside your comfort zone - Robert G. Allen
When we think of risk-taking , what comes to our mind immediately are major risks like jumping out of the train or driving new-speeds and we zero into negative consequences. As humans we tend to apply this “life-or-death thinking” to other less intense risks.
But most of the times these things are just fears like speaking in public , asking for a pay raise in contrast in we take small calculated risks like taking small experiments like thinking of starting a youtube channel you can just record a video and send to your friends.
These small experiments can lead to long term growth through taking these decisions.Sometimes its necessary to step out of our comfort zones and do the things we are afraid of and most times it turns out there are just self-limiting beliefs and forgetting we can take calculated risks.

Great read as always. most of the time I try to focus only on one thing when I'm actual fact I should be doing 50 bad things before the one good one. Enjoyed your take on this
