Hey friends!
Sitting on my bed, it's almost 4 am in the morning, and I'm having weird thoughts and grappling with myself. This is after some good hours of writing an idea I can work on and just before the voice says the pie is over. Okay, I know research says I should be sleeping by this time just to have good sleep routines and to ensure a productive day the next day, but I know we all have these days. I was asking myself, where can I find clients for the web design agency? Are there enough clients? Or are all the clients taken?
I.Why The Finite Pie Is a Lie ?
It's fascinating how often we all sometimes believe that wealth and resources are limited and you must get yours before someone else gets it, the Finite pie. I was looking at the trending news yesterday where there have been massive layoffs in the tech industry, and a lot of people were crying. So, can we say there is no reality to it? If we say yes, we will be naive, isn’t it? But today, I want to talk from the point that the finite pie doesn’t take much consideration of the economic growth; it looks much on the income distribution. Let's consider these points:
Skills and talent-Imagine the power we still have to bring talent and to increase our skills and how we can grow the pie to provide for each and everyone neglecting the different motivations.
Productivity -We all can increase the pie through doing things more productively with the use of tools like AI, which is obviously a debate because lots of people are saying AI is here to take our jobs, in which you can think what you want, but for me, it would be better to think optimistically about it since grumbling won’t save a day or pay a bill.
II.Some Actionable Actions
It’s not that some people have willpower and some don’t... it's that some people are ready to change and others are not - James Gordon.
We all will come to this day; I remember even today I was thinking and believing in this myth, but here are some actionable actions we can consider every time we are stuck in this belief:
Gather enough information before making a conclusion - Let's normalize not listening to the media; sometimes we need to validate the information at hand before making radical conclusions based on what the media is saying. Sometimes there are opportunities out there.
Think with a growth mindset - How can you add to the pie? One of the President Mr. Kennedy said: "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country." Instead of thinking how can I get a tech job, ask how can I start a tech company? Instead of asking where can I get a pharmaceutical job, ask how can I start a pharmacy?

Very interesting read. Enjoyed your take on this idea MacDaniel. You're right, seeing someone else get laid off makes us feel like the pool is full and there's no more room left. But they never show us the new hires happening in the back. It is a mindset shift, there always is room at the pool once you look for it
